- Keep your baby’s skin clean and dry and change nappies regularly.
- Leave your baby’s nappy off as often as you can so the air can heal the skin more quickly.
- Wash baby’s bottom every time you change the nappy and make sure that if you use soap it is rinsed off thoroughly.
- Fasten nappies so that there is room for air to circulate. Nappies and clothing should fit somewhat loosely to let your baby’s bottom breathe.
- Protect the skin with a barrier cream, such as Zincospray®, after every wash as the zinc oxide forms a protective surface over the skin. It is important that you apply nappy rash spray straight away, as if you don’t it could grow into something worse, such as a fungal or bacterial infection.
Other factors
Nappy rash is a common problem and for some reason affects some babies more than others. However, some factors may increase the chance of nappy rash occurring:
- After antibiotics
- Changing from breastmilk
to formula milk
- Drinking cows’ milk
- During teething
- Starting on solids
If nappy rash becomes infected or worsens, contact your doctor. |
