What is Dermatix gel?
Dermatix is a topical silicone gel that is transparent, dries quickly and helps maintain the skin’s moisture balance, while aiding the management of scarred skin surfaces resulting from surgery, burns, and other injuries. Dermatix has been shown to flatten, soften and smooth scars, relieve the itching and discomfort of scars as well as reduce the discoloration associated with scars. Dermatix gel is easily applied to all areas of the skin, including the face, joints and flexures, and dries rapidly to form an invisible “sheet”.

Dermatix was developed using the same basic long chain polymers as topical silicone gel sheeting, but it is available in a tube. It contains polysiloxane. The gel is available in tubes of 15 g and 60g.*

What is Dermatix gel used for?
Dermatix is used for the treatment and prevention of keloids and hypertrophic scars (such as those resulting from general surgical procedures, trauma wounds and burns), after the wound has healed and the skin surface is intact.

How should Dermatix gel be used?
Wash the affected area and pat dry. Dermatix should only be applied to clean, dry skin. Gently massage a small amount of Dermatix into the scar. If you apply too much gently wipe away any excess with a tissue in order to avoid staining of clothing. Apply once in the morning and once at night. Once dry, Dermatix may be covered with cosmetic blush. Dermatix can also be used on children.

When should Dermatix gel not be used?

  • Dermatix should not be applied to open or fresh wounds.
  • Dermatix should not be placed in contact with mucous membranes, or applied too close to the eyes.
  • Dermatix should not be applied over other skin treatments without the advice of your doctor.

Are there any possible unwanted effects of Dermatix gel?
Rarely, the gel may cause redness, pain or irritation to the skin. If you are concerned about these or any other unwanted effects, consult your pharmacist or doctor.

How should Dermatix be stored?

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Store below 25°C and away from heat sources.
  • Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.

Instructions
Step 1: Remove the product from its package. If necessary, use scissors to trim the product to size. It should extend slightly beyond the area of the scar.

Step 2: Peel away the paper protective liner and save it for later use. Place the product “sticky side” down, directly on the scarred area. Keep the product in place for at least 12 hours and up to 23 hours per day.

Step 3: At least once a day, wash the scarred area and both sides of the product with mild soap and water. Do not use a soap that contains moisturizers, lotions, or oils. A plain basic soap is recommended. Rinse the product thoroughly to remove all traces of soap. Allow the product to air dry or pat it dry with a lint free towel before reapplying. Between uses, store the product on the paper protective liner.

Special recommendations and precautions
Do not use creams, lotions or ointments with this product as they may interfere with the performance of the product and/or cause skin irritation.

Caution
As with any topical material applied directly to the skin’s surface, some type of reaction (usually a sweat rash) is possible. Stop using the product if you have a reaction. After your skin has returned to normal, you may reapply the product for short periods and gradually increase the hours of usage. Monitor the scarred area for signs of reaction. Continue to increase the wearing time until a comfortable maximum has been reached. If you continue to have a problem, stop use and consult your physician.

WARNING! DO NOT USE ON OPEN WOUNDS!
