Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Meda has a strong commitment to Sustainability and CSR. The purpose of Meda’s CSR efforts is to support the company’s overarching business objectives by optimizing opportunities and managing risks where sustainability matters have impact on the business.

More details on Meda’s sustainability work are presented in the annual Sustainability reports. Meda has issued a separate Sustainability report since 2010.

Meda’s ethical rules, the Business Conduct Guidelines, serve as a foundation to many areas of Meda’s sustainability work.

Safety and security of Meda’s products is an essential priority. Well-developed quality systems are applied across the organization.

Meda’s business activities impact the surrounding environment where the company operates. Meda strives to reduce the environmental impact as much as possible, and governs this work through an active Environmental Management System certified according to ISO14001.

As part of the Environmental Management System, Meda also supports the Carbon Disclosure Project and has participated through disclosing Green House Emissions data since 2009.

As an important aspect of managing Sustainability matters across the full value chain, Meda extends its work to co-operate with suppliers on Sustainability. The work towards suppliers is governed by Meda’s Supplier Code of Conduct.

Meda assigned to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in May 2012. This means that Meda has undertaken to promote UNGC's ten principles on human rights, labor rights, the environment and anti-corruption. Meda is committed to working with environmental, labor and anti-corruption issues. Meda also commits to all internationally recognized principles on human rights as well as the ILO Core Conventions. Promoting the UNGC's ten principles will be part of the way in which Meda is governed and conducts its operations. Meda’s Communication of Progress on UNGC is carried out through the annual Sustainability report.

Meda considers it to be the company's duty to make a positive contribution to society. The company helps improve health and well-being through its effective operations. Furthermore, Meda contributes to the community via donations to charitable organizations and sponsorship of research. Meda also maintains a Children's Fund which has supported several projects aimed at children in need in developing countries since it was established in 2002.

Meda is committed to helping improve access to medicine and right to health and to support relevant initiatives in this area.
